Cutting (pruning) mulberry branches

I am a new homeowner and in my backyard I have a "flowering mulberry" which my neighbors say need pruning every winter (ie, cutting off all branches all the way to the stump). I would like to do this myself, so I'm asking for advice on how one should go about doing this properly, and what tools I would need?

Is is a weeping mulberry? too bad the previous owners cut it back totally every year, it is not really good for the tree but it is also nearly impossible to stop the practice once started.

Anyway you need a good sharp pair of loppers, note the diameter size of the largest branch and make sure the loppers you buy can handle that size. Paste the following link into your browser for general info about pruning:
