Right now your question is so general that it is a bit difficult to answer. I would start by wandering around some established neighborhoods and looking at yards, hedges, and gardens. Take photos of what you like and ask what the plants are on the Name that Plant forum here on GW. Go to the library and get books on shrubs that have lots of photos such as Michael Dirr's Hardy Trees and Shrubs. What appeals to you?
- Do you like all of one kind of plant or do you want a mixture of different varieties?
- Do you want at least some evergreens or other plants that will look good during the winter?
- Are flowers important to you?
- Do you like plants with colored foliage, either all growing season or just in autumn?
- What is your goal visually - privacy or decoration or just breaking up a large expanse of fence?
- Do you want food or shelter for birds or other wildlife like butterflies?

If you take a photo of your location and add it as a follow-up, it may help get more suggestions. (right under "Post a Follow-up" in this thread there is "Image file to upload". Click on "Choose File" and add your image which will show in the preview after you click "preview message".)

Also, check out your soil. For plants to do well, they need good soil, and often builders remove top soil, either intentionally or when equipment mixes it with subsoil. In the link below (to a post on the soil forum) there is a good general description of some soil tests you can do yourself.

Once you have some more specific questions and ideas, you might want to ask this question on the Oklahoma gardening forum since everyone there will have conditions more like yours than mine is.
