i planted a banana tree in my yard last spring, fertilized it and it became huge in no time. it even started developing other little trees next to it .i transported it to a big pot and brought it in the house for winter. i have heard something about the trees developing flowers and then bananas, but i haven't seen either. i have also heard that it takes 7 years for it to start producing bananas. is this true? why don't i have bananas?

One would need to know your location as well as the variety of banana. There are many, and often with very different development patterns.

You need patience. Probably a lot of it.

In tropical regions, bananas will fruit in 9 to 12 months. In Long Beach, CA, where I used to live, mine took about 18 to 20 months.

The reason is for the varying time to fruiting is the accumulated HEAT!

And that's something you will be very short on in your indoor/outdoor situation.

That said, folks are successful in fruiting bananas in temperate climates if they provide means to supply adequate heat.

I suggest you visit the Banana Forum, read the FAQ (if they have one), also the posts about growing with contrived conditions, then go from there.

Good luck. And have fun!
