two trees in one?

Hi garden webbers,

This is probably a common phenomenon, but I am not sure what to do.

I have a nice young decidious tree that I have not ID'ed yet - so any suggestions on what it could be would be much appreciated. It usually produces small whitish flowers, and small round green hard fruit that smells like apple, but I'm not sure if it's edible.

I noticed that it is growing healthy fresh trunks that look very different from the tree as I know it. Is this still the same tree, or is this a bad thing and something is parasiting in it?

What should I do? Appreciate any advice.
