I have several groups of daffs. and every year the heads are all eaten away gradually,I have put slug pellets down and although I find a lot of dead slugs it does not seem to have made any difference the flowers are still disappearing. Is it some kind of bug???

Never had anything eat daffodils.
What kind of slug pellets are you using, because I also never have found a dead slug.

RE: Daffodils

I've seen plenty of dead slugs, and not just the ones I zapped with the ammonia; but they do seem to disintegrate quickly. However, I've never seen anything *eat* daffodils - not the the bulb tops nor the sprouts nor the buds or blossoms. Daffodil bulbs are poisonous, and the sap is highly irritating to most animals.

Thrips can damage many plants (including daffies), but in flowering bulbs, that is usually determined by the leaf and/or blossom silvering, withering and dying. The effects of thrips in other plants is usually noticeable by the leaves and/or fruit and/or blossoms being malformed, twisted, or misshaped. I have read of mites in bulbs, but have no personal experience with them (apparently mites can cause the bulb to die).

Can you post a picture? Maybe seeing the damage would give us a clue.
