I love new gardens!

The idea behind letting the freshly-tilled garden rest or get "stale" is to allow newly-exposed weed seeds to sprout so you can till them under or pull them out before you put in your own plants.

You might post on your regional forum (ie, I post on Texas Gardening *all the time*) to get some good tips for growing things in your area.

Sometimes we plant the same day we've tilled, sometimes we've waited. Just depends on what else is going on that day. Like the post above, I think you should look on your region's site for ideas & advice. If this is your first vegetable garden, you should start small. The first year we planted our whole garden (about an acre). We didn't expect that stuff would start being ready seemingly overnight & all at once. We were just so excited to have our first vegetable garden & couldn't wait to plant alittle something of everything.

Stagger your plantings so that you'll have more than one harvesting.

Start & keep a garden journal. I have put together a "how to" on my site if you want to make one. A journal is great to keep track of what you did right, what you did wrong. What vegetables worked, what didn't. What varieties worked, which ones you liked so you can plant those again.

Go to your county extension agency. They have a ton of free literature you can have. You may also want to take a soil sample to them if you haven't already done so. They can also give you suggestions on what really grows best in your area.
