Trying to find out what this plant is.....

We just bought a house last August and we have a very nice garden to learn about. I had a plant starting to come up in fall of last year. I didn't know what it was so I left it alone. It has grown in size quite a bit and am worried that its a possible weed and should be pulled. Can someone let me know what it is?

Candy, it's a perennial oriental poppy. Papaver orientale. It's normal for them to go dormant in summer heat, put out a flush of growth when temperatures begin to cool in Fall.

My coastal garden is cool in summer and they still go dormant here, leaving a temporary bare spot :)
