Hi guys, i'm new to the site and need some help. My girlfriend has given me a new coconut plant and its dying!! well i think it might be, the leaves are all begining to turn brown on the outside edges. I was just wondering if anyone had any hints or tips on how to grow these plants. I am going to re-pot it this weekend so i hope that might help however i'm not sure it will.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Do you mean a tree grown from a coconut, or something else?
In a pot? In the ground? Where do you live.
Not enough info.

Live in England, West Midlands. Its a tree growing out of a coconut and yes its in a pot not in the ground.

What temperature are you keeping it at? They need lots of sun and warmth.

Hi,
Humm coconut tree in a pot..I have never seen anyone trying this.I think you will need a HUGE pot.I used to live in coastal India where coconut trees are abundant. The root system can spread several feet across and below. So unless you want to do bonsai, its going to break whatever pot you grow it in. Also others are right, sun, hot sun, sandy soil is best.
Good luck,
Vaishali

I agree with vaishali. If yours is the same type I know (the type that grows on tropical coastal regions), then you won't be able to grow it in a pot unless you plan to make it a bonsai. It also needs lots of direct sunshine, warm weather (25 Celcius or above) and sandy soil. You sure it's coconut and not a palm?
