Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum and gardening in general. I've been talking to my mom about growing some vegetables in her backyard, but I'm not sure it's entirely safe. We've had dogs since we moved in, probably about 20 years ago. The patch in the picture has pretty much been their "potty" ever since. We had grass put in this patch when we moved in, but over the years the dogs have destroyed it. My question is, is it safe to plant vegetables in this plot of dirt? I was thinking we could put some chicken wire around it to keep the dogs out before we start growing.

Any info/advice would be great!
