Around here green houses are having sell out sales....and plants are so cheap I can hardly leave them there.
Can you find some thing like that where you are? For a few dollars you could ahve some fun and maybe learn something and find some wonderful plants.

you can plant anything you want, the blooming might be kind of out of schedule this season due to many unnatural circumstances, some might some might not because nursery push the plants to bloom all the time way early.
plant whatever you want that grows in your area, if it doesn't bloom this year, it'll bloom next year , the plant will be bigger, too.
one thing you have to worry about is to keep them well watered after you plant them for at least 2 weeks. it's getting really hot and they'll be very easily wilt. also it's not only poppies, most plant don't reqire excessive fertilizing. try to mix in compost instead of fertilizer next time. it's much gentler you don't wanna shock the new plants with heavy food.
