Plant them a little deeper....and staking is a good thing when needed.

My glads are toppling more this year than usual but they also have bigger better looking flowers. I don't know what I did differently.

interesting idea on the cages, but wonder about a couple things. one, I have a LOT of glads. (free after rebate at Menards, 2 years running ;) so have several dozen ) and your solution to the ugly cage showing in planting vines...wouldn't the shade given by the vines hinder the amount of sunlight the flowers need?
maybe I'll just have to break down and stake them, or cut the really toppling ones. btw, i also am going to leave my glads in the ground this winter. missed some last fall and they came up again this spring no problem. much less fuss and muss, especially with as many as I have.

Glads are wonderful - love them but will buy them as cut flowers from a vendor at one of the farmers markets. They can go through all the fuss and muss and I get the glory.

The tomato cage would work - cheaper than peony hoops and less labor intensive than staking each plant. But I'd skip the vine business. Plant the corms a little closer together than normal to have multiple plants in each cage - they really don't need to be x number of inches apart as all the literature recommends. You've eliminated the "soldiers in a row" look that glads tend to create; no flopping and enough greenery to help mask the cage.

Interesting you can leave them in the ground; definitely not winter hardy here.
