What kind of fescue?....I plant a fine leaved fescue in the shady areas....

My son-in-law thinks its either flat or broad-leafed fescue. It has quite a thick blade to it and pops up all over the lawn. It's pretty easy to pull out, even by hand, but each year we seem to be getting more and more of it. Today, my husband sat out there and pulled quite a bit of it by hand.

Fescue does not just pop up in a lawn and it surely is not easy to pull up. Sounds like crabgrass.

I have that awful broad leaved fescue that does seem to just pop up....it's easy to pull....but if you leave any roots it's back....
The only cure is Round up....or a shovel....and replant with a good fine leaved fescue!

Is your lawn in shade or very dry? How are you looking after it? If more and more fescue (if that is what it is) is showing up, there must be something about your lawn that is favouring the fescue over the other grasses.

Thanks - our lawn is not in the shade or in need of water. My son-in-law planted some kind of grass seed in an area next to his house which is next door to us. We have 100' and he has 200' - the seed was planted on the area about l50' feet from ours. Could there have been something in that seed that carried over on ours? I'm going to go on that website, because for all I know, this isn't fescue!!!! My husband and I are in the process of pulling it out by hand, and it's pretty easy going.
