The FAQ Rosa provided has all the info you need. However it isn't necessary to allow the gel to ferment around the seeds. You should absolutely do this if you intend to share seeds with others as it is the way many seed borne diseases are killed.

If you only intend to store them for your own use and you didn't notice any disease issues on your plants then you can just run water over the seeds in a strainer to get rid of the gel, let them dry on a paper plate in an out of the way area for a couple weeks and then store them.

I scanned through the FAQ quickly, but did not see anything about the folly of saving the seed from hybrid tomatoes.

And I've been under the impression for years that tomatoes got a whole lot of help from pollinating insects.

Rhizo mentioned the folly of saving hybrid seeds, but didn't expand.

Most of the tomatoes you get in garden centres are F1 hybrids, which means that their seeds will not produce the same plant as the parent and will likely be an inferior plant. F2 hybrids will grow true, you need to know what kind of tomato you had. Of course, if you are growing non hybrid, heirloom varieties, then you can save the seed.
