Mold and Dying Flowers!

Posted by amara-gardener 7 (My Page) on

I have mold on some of my outdoor soil and my plants are DYING. I used slug bait about a week ago and now I see mold over the soil of my Jethro Tull Coreopsis as well as one of my Vincas. Where I see the mold the stem is brown at the base and working its way up the stem and the leaves are wilted. Shortly thereafter my entire plant (from that brown stem) wilts and dries up to brown. I don't know if it's the slugs killing the plants or the bait. But my Jethro Tull was already browning before I put the snail bait down. The Vinca was beautiful until today. HELP?! I'm a new gardener this year.

Sounds like a fungus to me perhaps southern blight. Has it been hot and humid where you are ( silly question!!)
