RE: bulbs and perennials

The terms annual, perennial and biennial refer to the life cycle of a plant. The terms bulb, tuber, rhizome, seed etc. refer to the plant's method(s) of reproduction.

A perennial is any plant with a life span in excess of two years, so technically that would refer to trees, shrubs, vines, bulbs and any other flowering plant that is persistant in the garden. The term is most commonly used to refer to herbaceous plants that die back each winter to reappear again in spring. Bulbs are perennial, but a number of different types are not hardy except in the warmest climates and are treated as annuals - replanted each season.

All bulbs are perennial....in some places....the reason why one sort might not live over the winter is because it is a tropical bulb, from a place where the weather is warmer.
