Hi, I recently bought some Bamboo plants from Wally World, hoping to grow them in my aquarium filters.

Its been about 2 months and all six seem to be doing well with signs of new growth.

How long can I plan on keeping them in the filters and how tall will they get?

I received no information with them upon purchase and it was definitely an impulse buy. I'm hoping they will thrive in the fish water but would like to hear more about them from you experienced plant keepers.

Thank you for your time!

Michelle

RE: Bamboo

Hi! From one newbie to another, welcome to GW!! I have been growing lucky bamboo for a few years now and it always does well for me in plain old water. I have some that is about 2 yrs old and the stalks haven't grown at all. What does happen is the leaves shoot up. My largest one has leaves that stand about 6" off the stalk. The best luck i've had seems to be in low/diffused light. I even have some in my office that doesn't have a window. Anyway, good luck with the bamboo. It really is a nice addition to any room!!!

There are about 1,100 species of bamboo scattered through about 90 genera, but lucky bamboo isn't one of them. Lucky bamboo is Dracaena. To which plant were you referring?

If it is a true bamboo, perhaps a visit to the bamboo forum to ask your question would yield the answers you seek, but a better description of the plant may be asked for, unless it's common knowledge which bamboo (other than Dracaena) WW sells.
