The list is too extensive to provide ;-) Take a trip to a well stocked nursery in your area and see what you like. Chances are anything at a local nursery will grow well in your area.

Mosey on over to the growing in Tx forum they are really helpful there. I'm new to Tx but have been learning a lot. I can say that Right now is the time to plant seeds for bluebonnets. You are planting for winter right now so pansies, petunias(last till freeze), primrose, cyclamen, dianthus, alyssum, phlox are some winter blooming plants. I'm not sure exactly when they bloomin the winter, except pansies will last all winter I know that.

Also, you should get acquainted with the texas AMU websites they are excellent. Here is one of them on fall gardening.

The City of Austin has a wonderful planting guide for our area. It can be found (free) at most HD stores and it is available online at the link below.
Waterwise planting does NOT mean a desert like landscape. For year round color in this climate, be sure to include evergreens, such as salvia greggi, lavendar and rosemary. Good summer bloomers include many, many types of salvias, lantanas, vines and annuals.
