I need a no/low maintenance colorful perennial for a very small space(12x8)to form a line between the grass and the hedges(azaleas)as a ground cover .
I had hostas , but I would like to put in something else.
oh , and also I have allergies .
I hope I'm not being too picky .

And what height is preferred?

If you are zones 2 through 7, you might consider potentilla which comes in several colors. Height is about 24" which might be taller than you want.

potentilla looks nice, but too tall
can you think of something smaller ?

Phlox stolonifera and daylilly Happy Returns (18") or Eeny Weenie (10-12").

How about iberis sempervirens?

It's low growing, like sun or partial shade, is evergreen and has white flowers in the spring.

I was going to suggest liatris but I think I like the iberis better. Gotta watch the height of both of those, since different species have different heights.
