Volunteer your green-thumb at the Museum of Science!

Volunteers in this program will support the MuseumÂs informal education mission by assisting visitors in their exploration of the Butterfly Garden. This exhibit features a 1000 square foot butterfly/Plant conservatory with 400 free flying butterflies.

Responsibilities:

Butterfly Garden Volunteers receive training on content and informal education techniques. Volunteers will initiate conversations with Museum guests and answer their questions on butterfly identification and biology. Volunteers staff three stations in the exhibit and rotate through these stations in the course of each shift. In addition to helping visitors explore the exhibit, volunteers also assist with traffic control and in insuring that butterflies do not escape or are removed from the conservatory.

Commitment Requirements:

Volunteers must commit to one shift each week for a minimum of 4-6 months.

Shift hours are:

· Daily (including weekends) 9:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. or 12:30-4:00 p.m.

· Friday evenings only 5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.

Qualifications:

· At least 14 years of age

· Interest in butterflies and other insects and plants

· Enjoy being in a warm, humid environment

· Demonstrated enthusiasm, initiative, and reliability

· Customer-focused attitude
