They are both annuals. The tall one is Cleome. The smaller one I think the name is Balsom. Both of these usually re-seed for me, and will send up new plants next year, from those exploding seed pods! Fun aren't they?

This is the first time i've ever encountered those seed pods (creeped me out at first!).

Good pictures ... scatter those seeds around your gardens and you should find a lot of new plants coming up next year.

The balsam ones are an annual impatient (impatiens balsamina) also called touch me not. They do reseed and return. You can save the seeds in a dry place and throw them out in the spring if you wish. My husband had some that were in an envelope for five years and the majority sprouted.
