Datura (angel's trumpet) in winter?

| Hi there, I have a datura plant outside. I don't know what to do with it now that it's winter. Do i cut it back or let it stand? The seed pods are open too. Do birds like these? Also, any advice on where in the garden/yard to plant datura (i plan to move it in the spring). Thanks!

| Bring your datura in for the winter, it won't survive outdoors. I had to overwinter a datura for a garden client of mine, but that was several years ago and I don't remember the details. If you've already had a hard frost (and in MI, I'm assuming you have) it might already be too late. Do a web search for "overwintering datura" and you'll hit on some websites that will tell you how to do it. Good luck, CarrieB |

| Datura (upward facing flowers) is very easily grown from seed compared to Brugmansia (pendulous flowers)and is typically treated as annual as a result. Collect the seeds and sow in spring (or ask for suggestions on the Winter Sowing forum). Neither will overwinter in the ground in zone 5 so you will need to dig and store or simply reseed for next season. |

| You know, it was actually Brugmansia that I overwintered indoors! ...carry on |
