Found a great deal on Pro-mix BX.......

Posted by datdog z7 NJ (My Page) on

I came across a guy that bought out a nursery and he has Pro-mix BX 3.8 cubic feet for $12.00 a bale. Last season I paid close to $30.00 for the same product. I ended up purchasing 20 bales and he told me he had about 150 left. Thought I would pass this information on for the upcoming growing season. If you'd like his contact information drop me a message and I'll send it to you, he is located in Hammonton. I'm a little nervous about posting his number on a public board.

*as a side note- I have no affiliation with this person, just trying to pass on a great deal*

I looked up Pro Mix. Can I use the type he has to enrich my soil out side not just in pots?

Wish I'd known sooner but I panicked in November and bought bags of Miracle Gro germinating mix from Agway in Englishtown. They had to order it for me but at least I got it for winter/spring sowing.

Last year I waited too long and had a compressed bale of ProMix BF with Biofungicide delivered...shipping cost as much as the germinating mix.

The Premier website says it can be used in "cut flowerbeds" so don't see why you can't use it to lighten up outdoor beds. Would imagine you'd have to take into consideration the 75-85% sphagnum peat moss in the mix in case you don't want too much water retention for certain plants. I'm torn between the things I read that tell me to use peat moss to "improve drainage" and things that tell me not to use it because it can turn water repellant.

If I had to guess anyone on here knows more about it than I do!

Here is a link that might be useful: Premier/Pro-Mix BX

Hello everyone, the promix I purchased was almost two years ago. It was a one time thing and not something this guy would have all the time. Kristi

This is where I get ProMix bales. You can go pick it up yourself and save shipping/delivery. Yes, it's a bit of a drive from Hammonton, but cheaper than truck delivery. They'll sell to individuals; you don't have to be a company.

Hope the link works. I don't know how to link a URL.

Another location for a ProMix source.

Looks like Griffins Greenhouse Supply has another location in Bridgeton,NJ if that's more convenient.
