With our own NJ Flower & Garden Show winding down, and the
lavish Philadelphia Flower Show looming on the horizon
(March 4-11), I just wanted to remind everyone about the
other little NJ gem coming up March 9-12 (that's an unusual
Friday through Monday) called "Springfest". . .one of the
things that makes this Flower & Garden Show so charming is
that it is held in The Conservatory (a series of huge greenhouses) at The Sussex County Fairgrounds, so it's
sort of humid and really SMELLS like a garden! A number of
the vendors have real country charm, so much more appropriate to a garden show. . . and some of the food vendors were actually EXCELLENT, and not overpriced. One
of my all-time favorite nurseries was there -
Atlock Farms from Somerset - and any number of others (some
from New York State) which were quite impressive. Given
the space restrictions, exhibits were more intimate, and
many of them clearly benefited from that reduction. All in
all, the overall flavor was rather like a "county fair",
but under glass, and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves -
and please note, it is particularly kid-friendly. If you
are a plantaholic, bring your van or pick-up and loads of cash or plastic. . .I had to make TWO trips out to the car,
loaded down with horticultural treasures!
Kudos to Alisonn for first tipping us off last year. . .
