When I first planted mine I thought it had died. They're late bloomers, give it a couple of weeks.

We have 2 of them, and they're always the last ones to show life, so don't start worrying yet.

Well, even though the winter was mild, so far late March has been frigid. Your crapes are FINE--don't worry. Once the weather turns warm they WILL break out of dormancy. I'm further north than you and I have never had a problem overwintering them. In a NORMAL spring, you can expect to see new growth in late April/early May. PS. Although they start late they also bloom late (though September) and the leaves color beautifully in the November.

Scratch the bark a little, if it is green under, then it is still alive, if it is not, then go closer to the base, and do the same, if there is no green around the base, it may be dead, but I have to say I doubt it is, I have one that was stored in its pot, dry all winter in a pretty cold area, froze solid a few times I'm sure, its in the greenhouse now with he maters, and a leaf has just sprout from a few inches above the base...
