 o
Asparagus question

Posted by redbankgirl 7 NJ (My Page) on

I bought some purple passiion asparagus crowns at the Philly Flower Show. Just grabbed them from the bag that I left in my mudroom, and they have some green mold on them. Should I throw them away, or attempt to plant some lesser molded ones?
any advice is appreciated,
thanks

I'd plant them all, what do have to lose.

RE: Asparagus question

i was wondering if it would spread some disease to the asparagus or to other plants....

How about treating them with a fungicide before planting? Chamomile tea is supposed to have anti-bacterial/anti-fungal properties and would certainly be mild. Anyone have any suggestions?

RE: Asparagus question

A couple of years ago when I planted my asparagus crowns, I had waiting a while and they got a little moldy. I planted them anyway and I've been eating delicious asparagus the last few years, and they are starting to pop up right now.

I say plant them!

RE: Asparagus question

thanks everyone for the input. I'll give them a spritz of chamomile(which I've been using on my seed starts with great results) and go ahead and plant them!
