You can put lime down now. I would wait until about the middle of the month to put seed and fertilizer down. Actully I am on the shore so I am zone 7. If you are NJ zone 6 than wait until the end of the month for seed. The lime can go now for either zone. It will give it a chace to break down and get into the soil. If you do not seed than some time in early April put a fertilizer and crab grass controller down. I wouldn't use any crabgrass controller if you are seeding. Actully, the best time to seed is in the early fall.

The moss is usually due to poor drainage. Try airating the lawn. That should help with moss. Use a shade grass. If you have an Ace hardware around you they carry the Jonathan Green grass seeds. They have a shade lawn seed. They are expensive, but they have really top notch seed.

Not to take away from rahwayjohn, but there's a Lawn Care forum on this site. The people there are very knowledgeable. Based on their advice, I ended up shaving all the grass off my front yard last fall and starting over. It was the worst lawn in the neighborhood but now it's "lookin' good, man."
