Could you plant them and mulch them with leaves or something until it warms up? Or pot them up for now and leave them in the garage? That way you can bring them out once they sprout and take them in at night until there is no threat of freeze. Toad lilies have been so-so overwintering for me.

Thanks for your input. I'll probably plant them and then protect them with mulch. I had one toad lily last year that I adored, so I bought a bunch more this year. I've been anxiously checking last year's TL outside, but so far not seeing any signs of life.

If they are dormant, why not plant them. If they are growing I wait awhile. Just because they are tough doesn't mean fresh tender growth could take a freeze. Mine own patch is still dormant, and there is no rush with this plant anyway since it doesn't bloom until late summer or fall. Has anyone noticed that in warm wet summers it can bloom as much as a month earlier than in years with very hot and dry weather.

One of my toadlilies are showing buds but the rest still look dead as they very well may be.
