| I had a problem last summer with squash vine bore killing my squash and zuchinni. This year I'm rotating crops and my tomatoes will likely be in the spot that the squash and zucchini were last year. Will this be a problem for the tomatoe plants? Is there anything I should do for the soil?
And speaking of squash vine killers..is there anything I can do to prevent them this year? Thanks! |

| The squash vine borer is an early pest who completes its life cycle in the early part of our growing season. Delay planting your squash and zucchini for about 4 to 6 weeks. But remember to give the plants plenty of opportunity to produce before your frost date. I tried it one year and was successful. I do not grow squash and zucchini any longer, so I do not know if it works in successive years. |

| Squash vine bores are flying insects , not a disease and dont attack tomato plants. If you do plant early you can see the borers inside the vine , just take a pin and stab the caterpillar to kill it . It worked for me on my pumpkin vines one year . |

| I haven't tried this, but read about it- you can also try floating row covers. Since they are only a threat early in the season, you can just cover the plants until they have flowers and need pollinators. I just recently received an order of Agribon - light fabric that lets in rain and sun - so I may try it this year. |
