Heirloom Seed Savers in Jersey, I have a question for you

Hi,

I am growing heilooms for the first time this year, in the past I have grown whatever I found in the garen centers.

Here is my question.....Does anyone know what time of the year the insects (Zone 7) Do most of their pollinating?? I want to save some seeds and was told this could be a factor.

Some of the types I am growing,

Brandywine Suddith

Black Brandywine

Green Zebra

Green Grape

Druzba

Cher. Purple

Ernesto

Rinaldo

try and save seeds from some of the first ripe fruit you get and some of the last. You have a nice selection to start from. Early and late in the season are best.
Now you are ready for the "do I bag my blossoms" debate.

LOL Well I was reading Cross Pollination in the FAQ in the Tomato Forum

"It is difficult to collect large quantities of seed using bagging. Fruits do not always form inside the bag."

So I thought I would try it without, what is your oppinion??

I've only saved seeds the last two years, never bagged. So far no crosses that I know of but the normal cross rate is supposed to be around 5%. I grow fairly close together so would expect my rate to be higher.
