When is the right time to plant spinach seeds? We are in South Jersey. I know that they can be planted early, but is it still too early?

Nope. As a matter of fact, it's a little late - spinach can be planted in March. I've also had success sowing it in the winter, letting it come up when it's ready.

If you already have the seed, go ahead and plant ... tomorrow's supposed to be a beautiful day.

Spinach may be planted when the soil temperature reaches 32 degrees. Onion, endive, lettuce and parsnip may also be planted at this time. Spinach and turnips will not germinate with soil temperature over 70 degrees. Onion, endive and lettuce will not germinate when soil temperature gets over 75 degrees.

We usually plant in late March. The cutoff date for spinach is around April 15-25th. I find it better to seed in September, pick around thanksgiving and let the plants overwinter and harvest again today... Bob. in Bridgeton.
