When is Everyone Going to Start Their Squash and Cukes?

I live in Forked River, Ocean County.
Just wanted to see when others in our zones are going to start their Summer squash and Pumpkin seeds. Cukes. And Beans too.
I want to start the pumpkins and cukes inside to give them a week or two head start, but not much more than that because I dont want them to get too big in the house and I know they grow fast.
So just want to know when you are starting these veggies, and if you are starting them inside or not. LAst year I seemed to start them too early.

| I start cukes and melons in the greenhouse May first seeded into small peat pots. Even with a lot of light they get spindley very fast. Its better to direct seed in the garden mid May. You don't gain anything starting pumpkins early in pots its better to only seed them direct in the garden by mid June. Seeding zuchini into the garden mid May will be ready to pick within 50 days... | I wait a little longer than sunnfarm3 for cukes... I seed (in coffee filters in baggie) at the end of may because I have a cucumber beetle problem if I plant earlier than mid-late june. Melons I plan for May 1st in newspaper pots (inside 10 gal landscape pots) then when I plant out 3rd week of may. I cover with fabric until first female blossums appear. Andrea |

| Thank you Bob nad Andrea!!!! Andrea, where in Central Jersy are you? Jusst curious. Chris, I started my tomatoes indoors from the beginning of MArch to the middle of MArch. Sometimes, even last week of February, but did not get them in that early this year. I usually like to have all my tomato plants in the ground by MEmorial Day, and start about 2 weeks before. |
