plants/bulbs in a bag?

I was in the Wharton Costco last night and noticed bags of plants (I think)-they were labeled as if they were bulbs, but some of the varieties included primroses, hostas, clematis, and other plants which I don't think of as bulbs. The bags were covered,so I couldn't see inside. Maybe bare root plants?? Does anyone know anything about these? Are they worth trying?

I tried them once again this year. I should know by now.. NOT A GOOD IDEA. At the cost of them, you can wait and get them growing in a pot. I wasted about 20.00 on plants that when I got home were hardly a live sprout. And do not buy the flower beds in a box either, they did not grow. If you can see a actual growth that looks like a plant with leaves on it then it is better.

Yeah--I've had about 50/50 success with them in the past. I don't buy them anymore.

The earlier in the season you buy these and get them potted up (usually best to soak the roots, then put up in pots if ground isn't ready yet) the better. As time goes on they are apt to dry out in the warm store environment.
