What is the white stuff blowing in the air?

Hi, I work in Long Branch. Today there is so much of that fluffy cotton stuff that it looks like it snowed in some areas. It is accumulating on the ground! Does anyone know what kind of seed this is? Is it from a certain tree?

Last week or the week prior, there was all sorts of "willow cotton" blowing around here.

Cottonwood, most likely. Interesting tree that grows everywhere and can get big, but that snow-like fluff isn't much fun.
