Replacing a plant ????

I am looking to replace a pine tree that died with something else. The tree was planted next to a neighbors fence and the area gets wet when it rains,and hold water. There is a fair ammount of sun in that area. I am not sure what to put there. Any suggestions would be great. I would really like a shrub or perrinal.

Just a thought. How about a water pond and few water lilies.
