Case Nursery - fruit trees, berries, heirlooms

I love quirky scruffy nurseries. This one is on Ringoes, rt 579, just next to the church, behind an overgrown brick house.

They've got a small selection of well-priced plants, some NJ heirlooms like Raritan Rose peach. Actually they may have as many fruit varieties as your local Agway, but they don't have anything else. Very helpful service. It's tucked behind the close-packed houses, and opens onto the fields behind the village - it has been a family farm for more than 100 years. There are goats and cats.

The owner does not advertise or post signs worth a darn, so I am making a pitch for the place. It's one of my top three in its oddball, falling apart way, and I don't want it going the way of NJBG.

They are only open April and May, and if you try to go next year they may have moved a little north on 579, just beyond the railroad bridge.

Hey birdgardner,
I'm in Ringoes, too, but haven't stopped by Case. It's on my to-do list, but never seems to move higher in priority. Do you recommend and what do they have in stock? Sounds like they have a number of fruit trees from your description.

Apple, peach, cherry, blueberry, raspberry, gooseberry, blackberry, grape, strawberry I think, asparagas, some few common ornamentals. What I love about it is that you can sometimes come by an unusual variety, the low prices, and that it is so hardscrabble and individual.
