yarrow transplant

Posted by debbiekim 6 (My Page) on

i recently purchased 4 yarrow plants - 2 sunny seduction and 2 apricot delight. all of the plants had flowers and were healthy. i left them outside in the spot that they were going to be planted in my backyard for a few days.

after transplanting and fully watering, the apricot delights look great. but the sunny seduction started drooping within minutes of transplanting and lost most of the flowers.

all 4 plants were a bit rootbound, so i tousled the roots a bit. it's been a few days now, and the apricot delights are still doing great, but the sunny seductions are still droopy.

will they be ok?!?! should i just wait?

Hi... they are very hardy... cut back the drooping foliage... and they will sprout new growth. I just clipped mine all back after flowering beautifully. They are now only 6" tall sticks and will come back within a week or two and flower again and again THIS summer.

dont dispose of them, they will come back for you.

enjoy!

I have paprika (lipstick red color), a dark pink and a yellow. Perhaps you would like to trade small divisions by season end? let me know. Enjoy the gorgeous day we finally have!

thanks for your help!

i think the last few days of sun has really helped. the leaves are still a little droopy but i've actually seen a few new blooms!

how do you trade?!? i'm in bergen county.

RE: yarrow transplant

Hi Debbiekim... trading is fun. This is how I prep my plants for trade...

carefully dig up the plant (without ripping off the roots by accident) shake off dirt.

I fill a bucket/pail with water. Dip/swoosh the plant roots in the bucket to rinse the dirt away.

wrap roots in paper towel to absorb extra water and wrap in newspaper and put in priority box and mail (priority takes 1-2 days)

just make sure you dont put the plants in the box dripping wet... moist is fine.

Its best to try to arrange for equal amounts of trades or whatever you agree upon with the other person. Try to make an agreement on how much postage you want to spend... 1# box, 2# box, etc.

Always mark the plants with a tag or tape or something, especially if you have more than one variety of plant in the box

Thats just a general idea of how to do it... its fun... visit the "plant exchange" forums ... they are usually very busy in spring and fall when people are dividing plants and looking for new ones to plant.

Okay.. done with my lunch break...going back out to paint the fence! :o)
