A Sad Day in Whitehouse Station

This morning I found one of my Redbuds bent over, trunk snapped. It happened during a burst of high winds yesterday afternoon. This tree has had challenges in its young life- deer used it as a rubbing post for antlers and it was growing lopsided. But I have worked with it and this year it was looking great. Just had to post here because you folks understand. My work colleagues just make sympathetic noises and look at each other worrying about my mental health :-).

Totally understand how you feel. You work so hard to get something going and then in an instant it's gone.

I feel for you. My cimafuga is down to one frond...

I hear you. I lost one of the leaders to my Cerces last week in those high winds. Split. Pruned the shear off and we'll see what happens with the remaining branch and that exposed limb. I still have two others on the property.

Redbuds are so beautiful. It is a shame that they can be so short-lived. We have a glorious one whose days are numbered; the previous owners allowed a branch to split the central fork of the trunk. We removed the suicidal branch, but the fissure is several feet deep and the inside is hollow.

Mourn, and then enjoy the search for something new and beautiful to plant there.

I have replaced the Redbud with a Smoke Tree. Looks great and actually helps me enjoy all this rain.
