Outdoor hardiness of brugmansias and phygelius in South Jersey

| Which brugs or phygelius are hardy outdoors in South Jersey? Which ones do you recommend? I read that they are hardy to Zone 8 but I recall someone growing them in this area.

| Brugs aren't hardy here. You have to bring them inside for the winter. When they come in they bring every bug the world in with them. I keep mine in a large pot with holes cut in the side. The pot gets planted in the ground for the summer and the roots grow through the holes. It can be kept in the basement in the winter if you water it occasionally. Some years I keep it on my backporch so it won't die to the ground - they are much more beautiful then they can be viewed from below. |

| I'd check with the Tropicalesque Gardens Forum. There might be some kind of creative approach for them in cold NJ. One never knows. Good luck. |
