My tomatoes are doing real well this year. I put them in about 3 weeks ago and they have tripled in size. I also added mushroom compost soil and soil moist too.

Last year I had a problem with them due to a blight or something. Plus I was hurt and couldn't tend to them like I usually do.

My only problem is I get plant wilt if I don't water them often, like every day often. The soil around my house sucks, plain and simple. I even added about 4 inches of compost soil and mulch and I still get wilt after the second day of not watering. I don't know what to do next besides get a timer and a soaker hose.

My garden was new last year and my tomatoes were great. I've had them in about 3 weeks now, and they don't seem to be growing so fast, but I'm not experienced enough to know what to expect. I had one Brandywine last year that was spectacular , so I tried two this year.

We had our first salad last night and I decided I'm taking out the mesclun mix. Doesn't taste good. Romaine was great and another leaf lettuce was good.

My tomatoes haven't been doing as well as last year's either.

Part of the problem here might be a different location; I do try to rotate the veggies I plant as much as possible in my small-ish beds, and the soil in this year's bed just seemed heavier. I also think we had some chilly nights (in the 40's) right after I planted them in mid-May. I've read that tomatoes really don't start to take off until nighttime temperatures are in the upper 50's or more. And of course the recent soaking rains we've had haven't helped much.

After this comming weeks 90 degree temp you see them boom. You and I will hate it but the tomatos will love it.
