Digitalis thapsi Spanish Peaks

This had done very well for me. I bought it at the end of May 2007 in a clearance sale and although it did nor flower that year it has grown huge this year and has started?flowering. I love the flowers.

How long-lived is this perennial? Should I deadhead? I think it was evergreen. Any other perennial digitalis recommended?

I checked the Bluestone Perennials site as to the care, which I am cutting and pasting here:

Cut the flowering spike to the base as it finishes and several smaller spikes will appear, extending the bloom time. Leave new fall growth at the base of the plant to overwinter.
