Ants - New Trees - What to do?

Hello All,

I recently planted a number of arborvitae (Nigra) along a raised bed in the back of my property (in southern NJ). I have noticed a large population of ants in the mulched area - they do not appear to be fire ants and I believe they were there prior to the bed being put in. My question is should I work to address these ants? My concern and what I have read is that they can either attack or set up nests in the roots of new trees or flowers planted in the bed causing root damage. I was told to use Amdro as it will attack a broad spectrum but is that the best approach? Do I need to do that? And is it safe to use with newly planted trees, flowers and ornamental grasses?

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
