Virginia Rose

We went to the beach yesterday and clipped/rescued a cutting from the Virginia Rose bush. I have transplanted it in a pail of potting soil, 1/3 and 2/3 beach sand. Watered well and prayed.
Is there anything else I should have done?

Did you take any root with it? Did you enclose it somehow?

RE: Virginia Rose

Could't get any roots, forgot the darn leather gloves. I wet paper towels to transport it home and planted Immediately as I said.

RE: Virginia Rose

There are a few people who have rooted roses in water or by just sticking them in the ground. However, most create some kind of greenhouse effect, ziploc baggies being very popular. Below is a link with a description of that method. The soil should be barely moist inside this greenhouse. If you search on google "rooting roses", you will get some good decriptions of that.

Here is a link that might be useful: rose propogation

re: btw

BTW, if it fails and you really want this rose, I can give you some new cuttings. I don't think I have any suckers though but I'll check tomorrow.

RE: Virginia Rose

Thank you Loretta for the kind offer. I didn't cap it with a baggie. It is a pail of planting soil and sand mix. I will cover it tomorrow when I pick off the wilted leaves. The dirt is barely moist but I think it might survive my TLC.
