Spores? Please help...

Posted by jerseybeth (My Page) on

Hello,

This is my first post. I'd really appreciate any advice. This is only my second year gardening. I noticed these spores (at least I think they are spores) near my corn stalks.

Should I be worried about them? Any tips? Thanks again.

Here's the picture...I put a hammer in the picture to give it some scale.

I wouldn't worry about it. They came thru a combination of wet weather and your wood mulch.

It's one of the bird's nest fungi (funguses?). See the little 'eggs' in the nest? They won't hurt anything and you can't really get rid of fungi like that anyway; what you see is just the 'fruit'; the actual plant is thin threads all thorugh the mulch or whatever.
