Where to find currants in NJ

senga

Maybe it is little off topic, but does anybody know a farm growing currants in NJ or PA close to the border? I have read some years ago that somebody in Chester or somewhere in that general area was starting a currant farm. I and my family love them, but paying $3.99 for a handfull of moldy fruit at supermarket is a little too much.

And on the other hand is anybody growing them or gooseberries? Are they worth to bother? I grew up in Europe where currants and gooseberries are the cheapest and commonest of the fruits, but have a tough time to grow them in NJ. I think the climate is a little too warm and too humid.
