Is it too late to plant for the fall? I read that lettuces and things like that do well...What is everyone planting? Thanks!

With little sun here, back in the woods, I do not plant like I did when a neighbor, long dead, allowed me to use his plot. Lettuce should do very well, and, while it is so cheap at the veggie store, you can plant fine varieties that are usually unshippable. My daughter asked me to use my limited sunny spot to grow vegetable spaghetti squash and I have just transplanted the ones I sprouted. At least 100 days are needed, so the whole thing seems iffy. Today I planted the seeds of Kohlrabi and Kale, the latter being so hardy that freezing improves the flavor and even small plants are useable. I will see how these come. I have never planted Kohlrabi in the Summer, but only in Spring, with good results, at that time. Let me know what you do.

How about peas - they'll continue to grow well into the fall, won't they?

Radishes will come up in about 30 days. I keep letting my 5 yr old daughter sprinkle lettuce seeds in a container I have just for that. After about 3 wks we have itty bitty leaves sticking up, and we pull them out and eat them! (Believe it or not, this "micro-lettuce" is a food fad now and is selling for $40 a pound!) I am, however, holding off until mid-August for my carrot seeds and cilantro seeds b/c I think it might still get too hot for them to do so any earlier.

I plan on planting root crops this fall. Carrots, beets and turnups. I'm also going to plant lettus too.
