Stilt grass is blooming - time to mow - kill it all

A lot of the stilt grass has not actually showed the flower/seed heads yet, but they are present in a swollen part of the stem sheath. The awns (if that is the right word seem so well developed - flower-seed thingies, anyway) that I am wondering if this grass endulges in self-fertilization while the flowers are still in the sheath. Which would be really bad news.

But it definitely time to mow it low, maybe rake the stilt-root tangles out of the ground if the area is not out of the question.

I think the pre-germination chemical I put on made some difference - I can see lines of stilt grass intruding into the lawn where the spreader passes didn't over lap.
