Ernesto

So Ernesto took out the tulip tree outside my kitchen window. I'd known it was going to go sometime and had hoped it would drop into the multiflora rose and thereby allow me access into that thicket to get rid of the rose. But no, it fell 90 degrees in another direction and took out my fence (a nasty old wire fence that can be put back into place) and ended up in the swamp - where I'd cut the stilt grass on Wednesday.

This is not a sad loss. I now have wood for the wood stove for the winter of 2007-2008 and by uprooting, I will have a great site for the Stewartia my son keeps assuring me he is going to bring up and plant.

The gods were good to me when the tree came down as it dropped in between the Calycanthus that I had recently moved and a white pine seedling that I'd planted about a year ago. I don't think there's 8" between either and the trunk of the tulip tree.

Hope you all enjoyed the rainy day.
