I clicked on the website today and read on the homepage that Hank Schannen passed away in September. I only met him a few times but he was a very sweet man and made visiting his garden and nursery a wonderful experience.

Here is a link that might be useful: Rare Find Nursery

RE: Sad news at Rare Find

Was there 2 weeks ago to check out the sale, and was given the news by one of the employees, Ron. First time I've been to this place and I soon realized what a great nursery I'd been missing out on all these years. Not a big fan of rhododendrons, but after Ron took me for a tour 'round the place in a golf cart to see all the various plants growing there, he changed my mind some. I'm going back to buy a fargasia bamboo (Bill, another employee gave me a lot of info re: bamboo plants) and would encourage anyone nearby...hell, even if you're not check out the grounds and talk to the folks. Great place...maybe because there's nothing fancy about it at all. About as blue collar as it gets. And, I think, most of the items they sell are growing wild throughout the property, including an amazing "franklinia" bush with incredible flowers.

Saw that on their web site also when they sent email notice about perennial sale.

Had a number of plants picked out and then fractured my wrist.

No big digging this Fall even to plant their natives.

Nice to know from their customers they're down to earth people.

Dedication to the plants/way of life and less frou-frou is a better fit for me.
