Upper Michigan Gardening

I am looking for help from anyone who lives in upper Michigan, with gardening. I am moving to the Escanaba Area zone 5b I think, but would like to hear about your gardening experiences, what type of plants, vegetables, nut trees, fruit trees, berries etc. do well in that area, and any problems you might have encountered, I plan on gardening about 1/2 acre and as organic as I can possibly be. I would really like a gardening pen pal where we can share ideas and talk about garden things in the UP MI. I also would like to have bees. Thank you in advance for your replies.

Hello! I used to live in far Nortwestern WI(zone3). Now in western WI (zone4) my sister in law lives up in Zone 3. Between asking her, and what little I know, perhaps I can help?
