Planting over a well

Posted by mitanoff z3/4? Ontario (My Page) on

Hello to all you rural landowners:

I've got a new place and the head of the well is in my front yard, fairly close to the house. I would like to start a flower bed and I don't know if I am restricted to certain types of plants. Am I? Any searches I conducted didn't bring me what I was looking for. Hope you can help. My local nursery said they "think it's allright" . I was hoping for something more definitive.

Thanks!
Mit

RE: Planting over a well

I think it's all right as long as you realize that are times when a well has to be dug up. If you have a submersible pump, there might come a time when it has to be replaced. We have a concrete square over our well.
You might be thinking of the restrictions on planting on leach fields that are part of a septic system. I don't think edible plants are supposed to be planted on leach fields.
